Lunar Coins are special items that drop rarely from enemies inRisk of Rain 2. They are large blue coins that persist after death. These coins can be used to purchase unique items at theBazaar such as Lunar Items or even a unique Survivor.

8 How To Get Coins

There are two ways to obtain Lunar Coins: defeating enemiesor Obliterating the run. Enemies have an absurdly low chance of dropping coins. However, Elite enemies with elemental modifiers seem to have a higher chance of dropping coins.

These enemies become more common as a run continues. As for Obliteration, players can enter a unique portal after the third stage of any loop to end their run prematurely, granting 5 Lunar Coins to every player in the lobby.

7 Newt Altars

To enter the Bazaar, players will need to open a portal to the Bazaar first. Players can find peculiar blue frog statues called NewtAltars on each stage. For the cost of 1 Lunar Coin, it will spawn a blue orb at the teleporter. Defeating the boss and surviving the charge time will open a blue portal that takes players to thehidden marketplace. Theblue portal can also spawn on its own without a Newt Altar, but the chance of this happening is rather rare.

6 Purchase Items

While players are inside the Bazaar, they can choose to spend their coins on Lunar Items or decide to transmute their current gear for new items.

Lunar Items are unique in that they have a positive and negative. These items can range from a damage increase while halving player health to spawning meteors that harm all players, allies and enemies alike. Those that don't want to experiment with these items can also transmute their current gear into new items based on what the Bazaar has available. Unlike purchasing Lunar Items, transmuting gear does not cost Lunar Coins.

5 Lunar Items

Even with major negatives tied to them, Lunar Items can be game-changing based on the current run. These items can grant massive damage boosts or grant a strong passive bonus that certain items can easily mitigate. A great example of this is Shaped Glass, an item that doubles player damage while halving player health. Those that stack this item recklessly will face an instant death at later stages, but luckier or more skilled players might combine this on certain characters with immunity phases such as Mercenary to mitigate this massive negative. Keep an eye out for theseLunar items.

4 LunarPod

For those who have a limited number of coins, players can also find Lunar Items through special flowers around the map. For the cost of one Lunar Coin, they can obtain a random Lunar Artifact to use.

The pool of Lunar Items is the same as the Bazaar, but what the player sees is all they get. They can choose not to grab the item if it proves detrimental to the run, but theseLunar Pods can grant run-changing items if a player is lucky.

3 Shrine Of Order

One other fun thing players can do with Lunar Coins is dramatically alter a current run by organizing their items into one type for each rarity. This can be done through a Shrine of Order. These have a rare chance to spawn in each zone and completely change the items players have. For the cost of one Lunar Coin, the Shrine of Order will turn every common item into the same item, every uncommon item into the same item, every Lunar Item into the same item and every legendary into the same legendary. It goes without saying, but this can either brick runs or turn players into unstoppabledeitiesbased on their luck.

2 Artificer

Not only are Lunar Coins great for obtaining unique items, but they are also needed to obtain the Artificer Survivor. To earn this caster, players will need to obtain 11 Lunar Coins. Players will need to spend one at a Newt Altar to open ablue portal. Once inside the Bazaar, players can spend 10 coins to unlock the frozen character next to the merchant. The frozen character is none other than the Artificer, a caster-based Survivor that uses flamethrowers and projectile spells to devastating effect.

1 Obliterate

While earning coins from dead enemies is great, the best way to farm Lunar Coins is to obliterate the run when it goes well. The third zone out of every 5 zones will have a Celestial Portal that leads to an ominous obelisk. Interacting with it will end the run and grant 5 Lunar Coins as well as the Mercenary Survivor for players doing this for the first time.

However, there is a special Lunar Item namedthe Beads of Fealty that can be used next to the obelisk to open up yet another portal to a different dimension. Defeating the Scavenger boss inside will grant a massive number of Lunar Coins before the run ends.
